Smoking ban in Bulgaria should not be lifted: exper

Sofia. “Ban on smoking at public places should not be lifted,” said Dr Masha Gavrilova, expert with the Bulgaria without Smoke association, in an interview with FOCUS News Agency.
“The downturn in the number of customers at the entertainment and catering establishments is not explained only with the smoking ban. I cannot understand whether these places are for smoking or rather for eating and entertainment. Smoking is placed in the limelight. One does not visit these establishments to smoke but to eat food, meet pleasant people, have some nice time, and if one is so willing to smoke, then no one bans these people from going out and have a smoke for a couple of minutes and then go back inside,” Dr Gavrilova commented further.
“We should not turn the fact that people are not allowed to satisfy their smoking dependence into a great tragedy,” the expert remarked.
In her words, the decrease of the customers at the entertainment and catering establishments is also explained with the fact that there is a financial crisis and lack of financial means and the Bulgarian households are cutting their expenses on luxurious goods, services and entertainment, including going to restaurants and bars
